Maharashtra’s Budget 2025 Live Updates: Ajit Pawar State Budget in Assembly In his 2025 budget speech, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, unveiled ambitious plans for the state’s infrastructure, including the announcement of a third airport in Mumbai. This development is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city’s connectivity and address the growing demand for air travel. The third airport is set to alleviate congestion at the existing terminals, making Mumbai a more accessible and efficient global hub. Additionally, these efforts aim to drive economic growth and position the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as an international economic powerhouse by 2047.

Therefore, the objective is to take the economy of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region from the current $140 billion to $300 billion by 2030 and to $1.5 trillion by 2047.

Infra highway projects :

The land acquisition process for the 760-kilometer-long Maharashtra Shaktipeeth Highway, from Pawanar in Wardha district to Patradevi in Sindhudurg district, costing Rs 86,300 crore, is in progress.

The 14-km long, Rs 18,120 crore long construction of the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Bridge between Bandra and Versova is planned to be completed by May 2028.

A 55-kilometer-long project of sea bridge and connecting roads from Uttan to Virar will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 87,427 crore.

Metro projects :

A total of 143.57 km of metro lines have been commissioned to provide eco-friendly, sustainable, barrier-free and air-conditioned transport facilities to the citizens of Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune metropolises. About 10 lakh passengers are taking advantage of this service daily.

In the coming year, a total of 64.4 km of metro lines, 41.2 km in Mumbai and 23.2 km in Pune, will be commissioned.

A total of 237.5 km of metro lines will be commissioned in the next 5 years. The first phase of the 40 km long Nagpur Metro has been completed and the second phase of the 43.80 km long work worth Rs 6,708 crore is in progress.

The Thane Circular Metro Line and the Swargate to Katraj Extension Line project in Pune have been approved by the Central Government.

The proposal for the construction of two routes Khadakwasla – Swargate – Hadapsar – Kharadi and Nal Stop – Warje – Manikbag under Pune Metro Rail Phase-2 at a cost of Rs 9,897 crore has been sent to the Central Government for approval.

The work of the metro route from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport in Mumbai will be taken up soon.

International Airports :

The newly developed Navi Mumbai International Airport, spread over 1,160 hectares at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, will have a capacity to handle 90 million passengers and 2.6 million tonnes of cargo annually. About 85 percent of the project is complete and test flights have been successfully conducted. Domestic flights are scheduled to start from there in April 2025.
