Delhi Launches Mahila Samriddhi Scheme: ₹2,500 Monthly Grant for Women on Women’s Day

Ahead of the assembly polls, the BJP had promised ₹2,500 in monthly aid to women from (poor families) under the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.’ Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, however, pointed out that the previous AAP government left the public exchequer depleted. Despite this, she assured that her administration would implement the ₹2,500 monthly scheme for women.

At a press conference ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly session, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed the financial situation left by the previous government, stating, “The public exchequer appears completely empty. However, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana will be a continuous effort for our sisters, and we will launch it with detailed planning.The BJP’s promise also included ₹21,000 for Pregnant Women, as per the election manifesto. Gupta emphasized that the (Mahila Samriddhi Yojana) would become a regular feature for the people of Delhi.

Earlier, former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, a leader of the AAP, wrote to CM Gupta, seeking a meeting to discuss the implementation of the ₹2,500 monthly scheme, a promise made by Prime Minister Modi during the election campaign. Atishi also expressed disappointment that the scheme had not been approved in the first cabinet meeting, despite the government’s assurances.

She accused CM Gupta of exposing Modi’s (false claims),stating that if the ₹2,500 aid was genuine, it would have been approved immediately. Atishi further questioned whether the promised ₹2,500 would be transferred to women’s bank accounts by March 8, as Modi had promised.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a press conference ahead of the Delhi Assembly session, set to begin on February 24. Prior to the assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised ₹2,500 in monthly aid for women from “poor families” under the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana,’ along with ₹21,000 for pregnant women, as part of its Delhi election manifesto.

Rekha Gupta, while addressing a press conference, stated, The financial situation left by the previous government is such that when we review the public accounts with officials, the exchequer appears completely empty. However, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana will be a regular initiative for the people of Delhi, a sustained effort for our sisters, and we will roll it out to the public with thorough planning.
She also mentioned that all MLAs would take their oath during the first session of the Delhi government. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker would be elected, and the pro tem speakers would be sworn in by the Lieutenant Governor on Monday.
Earlier, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi wrote to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, requesting a meeting with the AAP legislative delegation on February 23 to discuss the implementation of the ₹2,500 monthly scheme for women, a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign.

Atishi pointed out that the scheme had not been approved despite the first cabinet meeting being held on February 20. She added, “The women of Delhi trusted Modi Ji’s guarantee, and now they feel deceived.

Atishi argued that if Modi’s promise were genuine, the women’s aid scheme would have been approved in the first cabinet meeting. She accused Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of exposing Modi’s “false claims” on her first day in office.

If Modi’s guarantee was real, the women’s financial assistance scheme would have been passed in the first cabinet meeting. But on her very first day as Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta exposed Modi’s false claims, proving his guarantee to be nothing more than a ‘Jumla, Atishi said.

She further criticized Modi’s repeated assurances that women would receive ₹2,500, and even BJP President JP Nadda’s statement that the scheme would be approved in the first cabinet meeting. However, this has not occurred, she noted.

Atishi also mentioned that Modi had promised the ₹2,500 would be transferred to women’s bank accounts by March 8 and questioned whether CM Rekha Gupta would once again prove his guarantee false.
